Small players in the global running shoe market are the Pearl Izumi running shoes, but they have loyal followers. They are popular for their cycling shoes. The name is derived from the gem “pearl” and an area of Japan known for its clear water “Izumi.” Literally translated, the name means, “fountain of pearls.” For over 50 years ago the company started in Tokyo and has had a presence in the United States since 1981. They have sponsored many bicycling teams, including the 1984 USA Olympic team. As well as cycling, they have presences in many sports including cross-country skiing, triathlon, duathlon, and running.
